How Much Does House Cleaning Cost in NSW? (2026 Guide)

Two cleaning quotes beside a calculator and pen on a kitchen table

“How much does a cleaner cost?” is usually the first question, and the answer depends on a handful of things: the size of your home, how long the job takes and what’s included. This guide breaks down what house cleaning costs across Sydney, the Illawarra and the Shoalhaven, using Housekept’s real prices, so you know what to expect before you ask for a quote.

What affects the price of house cleaning?

  • Size of the home. More bedrooms and bathrooms mean more time.
  • Time included. Most cleaners price on labour hours, either fixed per package or hourly.
  • Condition. A home that hasn’t been cleaned for a while, or has heavy build-up, takes longer.
  • Type of clean. A regular clean, an end of lease clean and an Airbnb turnover cover different tasks.
  • Extras. Ovens, fridges, carpets and windows are usually priced separately.
  • Scheduling. Some providers add loadings for weekends and public holidays.

  • Carpet cleaning: $70 per room
  • Laundry and folding: $70 per hour

Fixed price or hourly?

A fixed-price package gives you certainty. You know the cost and what’s included before you book. Hourly pricing suits smaller or less predictable jobs, but the total depends on how long the work takes. If you’re comparing the two, ask how many labour hours a fixed price includes and what happens if the job runs over.

How to compare cleaning quotes fairly

  • Ask what’s included. Two quotes for the same home aren’t comparable unless the tasks and hours match.
  • Check who does the work. Employees are usually managed by the company, while subcontractors can vary from visit to visit.
  • Confirm insurance. You’re letting someone into your home.
  • Ask about supplies. Does the price include equipment and products?
  • Read the cancellation terms. Know what happens if you need to reschedule.
  • Check GST. Make sure you’re comparing like with like.

Ways to keep your cleaning costs down

  • Tidy surfaces and floors before the clean so time goes on cleaning, not clearing
  • Book regular cleans so the home never builds up
  • Bundle add-ons into the same visit rather than booking separate trips
  • Be clear about your priorities so time goes where it matters most to you
