Housekept started with a problem Matthew and Samantha Simpson knew firsthand.

As brother and sister, they had both grown up around the idea that good service should be simple: turn up when you say you will, do the job properly, communicate clearly, and take pride in what you leave behind.

But it wasn’t until Matthew began managing an Airbnb property in the Shoalhaven that the idea for Housekept really took shape.

Running a short-term rental sounds straightforward until you’re the person responsible for making sure everything is ready for the next guest. Cleaning had to happen between check-out and check-in, linen needed to be changed, supplies restocked, issues reported, and the property had to look exactly as it should every single time.

The hardest part wasn’t finding someone who could clean. It was finding a service that could manage the whole turnover reliably.

Too often, there were last-minute cancellations, inconsistent standards, missed details and constant back-and-forth. Matthew found himself managing the cleaner instead of managing the property.

That experience became the starting point for Housekept.

Matthew and Samantha decided to build the kind of cleaning business they had been looking for themselves: a local, family-run company that could be trusted to take responsibility for the entire job, not just complete a checklist.

Housekept began in the Shoalhaven, helping local homeowners, Airbnb hosts and property managers keep their properties clean, maintained and guest-ready. From the beginning, the focus was on reliability, communication and consistent standards.

What started with individual homes and holiday properties quickly grew through word of mouth and repeat clients.

As the team expanded, so did the services. Housekept began supporting residential clients, end-of-lease cleans, NDIS participants, commercial properties and accommodation providers. The business developed systems around scheduling, quality control, linen, property access and communication so clients could hand over the job and know it was being managed.

Today, Housekept operates across the Shoalhaven, Illawarra and Sydney, with a growing team servicing homes, businesses and properties across NSW.

Despite that growth, Housekept is still very much a family business.

Matthew and Samantha remain involved in the company, and the same frustration that started Housekept continues to shape how the business operates today.
